Staff Information

Kathy is the office secretary. Kathy should be trusted with all your concerns. She schedules patients for appointments and requires some information about your appointment to allot you an appropriate amount of time. She has a lot of experience in a medical office setting and has been working with me since I opened the Practice in 2019. She keeps everything running smoothly.

Courtney Muenzel is the office nurse. Courtney is responsible for all immunizations and routine injections. She is actively involved in patient encounters and often meets with the patients prior to the doctor’s visit. Courtney’s role also includes health education. She is often available to answer your health-related concerns via telephone during office hours.

Alli Hammond is our nurse practitioner. She recently joined the team in 2024. I am very fortunate to have her involved in the practice. She works independently, in conjunction with and alongside me, to help manage all your medical needs.

Appointment Scheduling

For an appointment, please call Kathy at (705) 876-4504. Most appointments are 15 minutes in duration. Most concerns require this amount of time for thorough assessment. In a doctor’s appointment, we can typically take care of one to two issues. If there are multiple issues, we will look at them together and decide which ones can be taken care of that day, and which ones require a new appointment. I will try my best to stay on time, however certain situations are unpredictable, and I would appreciate your patience if delays occur.

Missed Appointment Policy

If you are unable to keep an appointment, please call at least 24 hours in advance of your scheduled appointment to cancel. Any notice you can provide is appreciated and we recognize that unexpected circumstances can arise. There is a charge for missed appointments when notice is not provided to us. Our office will not be calling to remind you of your appointment; it is therefore your responsibility to remember.

Same-Day Appointments:

I will always try to keep appointments available for same-day, urgent visits. If you need to be seen urgently that day, please call in the morning and we will triage and do our best to accommodate you. Less urgent appointments will be scheduled as available.

Day of the Appointment:

Please try to remember to bring your medications or, if not practical, a list of your medications including name, dose, and frequency to every appointment. You may think I should know all medications that you are taking, but often patients are followed by specialists who prescribe their own medications and I am not always aware. It helps to improve the efficiency of the visit and your safety if you have your active medications with you. Please remember to also bring your health card with you at every visit. Please arrive on time. I will do my best to ensure that the office runs efficiently and on time. We reserve the right to rebook patients who are late for appointments.

Virtual Care:

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual care has become available in Ontario. I do provide virtual appointments (by telephone) for issues that are amenable to resolution by this approach. My receptionist, Kathy, will triage your concern and offer you an in-person appointment or virtual appointment, based on guidance I have provided to her. There are many issues which are not appropriate for virtual care, so you may be asked to book an in-person visit.

In addition, we have access to a secure e-mail platform to allow us to share office information with you, as well as test results and health-related communication. In order to access this service, you must read and sign the virtual care policy. This can be accessed through The Medical Centre website (https://www.themedicalcentre.net) – click “Patient Portal” to complete the consent online.

After-Hours Clinic / Holidays

If you require urgent care outside of office hours, the After-Hours Clinic at The Medical Centre is available:

  • Monday to Thursday: 5:00pm ‐ 8:00pm
  • Saturday and Sunday: 8:00am ‐ 2:00pm

If the office is closed for holidays, there is also a doctor on-call, available Monday to Friday 9:00am to 4:00pm. Visits for these services are by appointment only. If you require an appointment from one of these services, please call The Medical Centre switchboard at 705-743-6222. The after-hours clinic hours may change during the holidays. After-hours care is NOT to be used for routine visits such as diabetes checkups, prescription renewals, etc. Of course, the Emergency Room at PRHC is available 24/7 for more urgent concerns.

By “rostering” with our team, you have access to the After-Hours Clinic and the doctor on call, as mentioned above. You also gain access to allied health services, including mental health counseling, a dietician, and pharmacy consultations.

Prescribing Policies

You may ask for a prescription renewal at any visit. Routine medications are renewed for a 12-month period. If you are running low on a routine medication, it likely indicates it has been a year since your medications and health have been reviewed – please call to book an appointment as some medications require monitoring, including bloodwork and a physical examination. In the interim, your pharmacist can extend your prescription until you can see me.

Uninsured Services

Certain services are not paid for by OHIP and will be charged to you directly. Such services include completing insurance and employer forms, sick notes, transferring medical records, and procedures not deemed “medically necessary,” such as cosmetic procedures. Should you request one of these services, you will be advised of the charge and must agree to it prior to the service being completed. Payment is required at the time the service is completed. Cash and cheques are accepted. The fees assigned are per the recommendations of the Ontario Medical Association. I do realize and will always take into consideration that some patients may not be able to pay for these services. Please do not hesitate to inform us if these charges pose a financial hardship to you. Alternative arrangements can be made. For a list of uninsured services and fees, please contact our office.

Regardless of the circumstances, patients are expected to treat all members of the staff with courtesy and respect at all times, including over the telephone. Any form of inappropriate behaviour, including rudeness, argumentativeness, and foul or inappropriate language is unacceptable, breaches the trust and respect between our team and you, and can result in your immediate termination from the practice.
